Protect forms from completion by robots

Postby keneb » Mon Nov 09, 2009 1:03 pm

How can I protect a form from completion by robots, eg entering a random mathematical formula, or entering the letters of a graphical image.
Recently I am receiving many forms completed by robots.

Hi

Please click on Edit next to the form in question, go to Security Settings and change the "No" to "No Cookies" on the dropdown next to CAPTCHA

Protect forms from completion by robots

Postby keneb » Tue Nov 10, 2009 10:04 am

Jani thanks for the replay. I edited the form to say No cookies, but am still receiving forms completed by what I assumes is robots because the firstname and the first part of the email address are the same and are random letters - not a recognisable name. So I deleted cookies to see if that would work. Now I cannot log in to majestic - the following message appears: "Your session has expired and the database connection has been lost
Please enable cookies on the domain "secure.majesticinteractive.co.za" to prevent this from happening".

By the way, the link to the forum after logging into majestic was there yesterday, but does not appear today. Do you know of this problem.

When I try to log into secure.majesticinteractive.co.za I am redirected to www.majesticway.net

Spambots on website forms

Postby administrator » Tue Nov 10, 2009 1:15 pm

I think you might have misunderstoon me, and deleted the Cookies from your internet browser, instead of logging into Majestic. Going to Forms - All Forms - clicking on Edit next to the website form - going to secturity settings and activation the Captcha with no cookies

Your Majestic URL is
http://mini.majesticinterinteractive.co.za

Forum URL is
http://forums.majesticinteractive.co.za

If the above is what you have done, and are still receiving contacts from spambots - please let me know so I can have this checked out.

Protect forms from completion by robots

Postby keneb » Tue Nov 10, 2009 3:13 pm

Jani, I think you misunderstood me.

1) I followed your instruction to log into majestic, navigated to forms, selected the appropriate form, clicked on on edit and selected No cookies, but am still receiving forms completed by what I assumes is robots because the firstname and the first part of the email address are the same and are random letters - not a recognisable name.

2) So that is why I deleted cookies in case the robot was using cookies.

3) Now I cannot log into majestic - the following message appears: "Your session has expired and the database connection has been lost
Please enable cookies on the domain "secure.majesticinteractive.co.za" to prevent this from happening". When I try to log into https://secure.majesticinteractive.co.z ... gin_v4.php I am redirected to www.majesticway.net and cannot log into the interactive portal from there.

4) On a separate note: By the way, the link to the forum after logging into majestic was there yesterday, but does not appear today. Do you know of this problem.

Hi keneb,

1) The Captcha option (when editing a form under "Security Settings") is there to eliminate robots submitting forms. This either needs to be set to "Standard" or "No cookies". The "No Cookies" option is there to eliminate issues in Internet Explorer not allowing cookies on forms contained in an iframe within another website. If your form is used in an iframe select the "No cookies" option.

2) The robot cannot use the cookies contained on your machine, so clearing your cookies will have no effect.

3) Your cookies have been cleared so you need to login to majestic via http://mini.majesticinteractive.co.za/ or (https://secure.majesticinteractive.co.za/mini/ for a secure connection) to recreate the cookie that contains your client data. This is why you cannot login via the link mentioned. You should bookmark one of these pages rather than going directly to the link mentioned.

4) I have included the link to this forum above the Majestic logo once you have logged into the system. It will now be there permanently.

I hope this information helps.

Hi again,

Can we keep and eye on the number of submissions over the next week? If there is still a problem let me know and I'll look into upgrading our Captcha functionality.

Postby keneb » Thu Nov 19, 2009 10:09 am

Hi Warren, I have received 32 spambot completions of my input form since 13 November. Hopefully you can upgrade the Captcha functionality without too much difficulty. Regards Ken

Hi Ken,

I've added this upgrade to our development schedule and flagged as urgent. Hopefully it'll be completed in the next week or two.
